BOOST · Persimmon Tannin Laundry Additive

Most detergents
mask odor.
BOOST neutralizes it.

The first laundry additive built on persimmon tannin extract — a condensed polyphenol that chemically eliminates odor compounds at the molecular level. Add it to any wash. No fragrance. No masking.

Target Compound

The odor your detergent can't reach. BOOST targets it directly.

2-nonenal is the specific molecule behind persistent fabric odor that survives wash after wash. Standard detergents were never designed to address it. BOOST was.

01 · The Compound
What is 2-nonenal?
2-nonenal (C₉H₁₆O) is an unsaturated aldehyde — the specific molecule responsible for the persistent musty, grassy odor that clings to fabric long after washing. In Japan, where this phenomenon is formally studied, it's called kareishu. Unlike bacterial body odor, 2-nonenal is a purely chemical byproduct: omega-7 unsaturated fatty acids on skin oxidize in air, generating 2-nonenal as a breakdown product. No bacteria involved. No hygiene failure. Just chemistry.
02 · Why Standard Washing Fails
Water can't touch it.
2-nonenal is not water-soluble. This is the critical failure point of conventional laundry care. Standard detergents — regardless of temperature or fragrance load — cannot effectively lift this compound from fabric fibers. It survives multiple wash cycles, reactivating with heat and moisture. Fragrance temporarily overrides the scent perception, but the compound remains embedded in the fabric unchanged. The odor always comes back.
03 · The BOOST Mechanism
Persimmon neutralizes the aldehyde.
Persimmon tannin extract contains condensed polyphenols with a documented affinity for aldehyde functional groups. These polyphenols react with the aldehyde group of 2-nonenal (the C=O), forming stable bonds that permanently alter the compound's molecular structure. The odor activity is chemically eliminated — not masked, not covered. This is the mechanism that makes BOOST fundamentally different from every other laundry additive on the market.
Persimmon tannin (kaki-shibu) is the only naturally-derived ingredient documented to specifically neutralize 2-nonenal — a compound that conventional laundry detergents cannot address. BOOST is the first product to apply this chemistry to fabric care.

The Science

Polyphenol chemistry. Centuries of documented use. First time in laundry.

Persimmon tannin (kaki-shibu) has been used in Japanese materials science for centuries. BOOST is the first application of this mechanism to laundry care — with a formula engineered for wash-cycle conditions.

01 · Polyphenol Structure
Catechins & Procyanidins
Persimmon tannin extract is rich in condensed polyphenols — specifically catechins and procyanidins — carrying multiple hydroxyl (–OH) groups. These groups form hydrogen bonds and covalent interactions with the carbonyl (C=O) group of aldehyde compounds like 2-nonenal, permanently neutralizing their odor activity at the molecular level.
02 · Historical Lineage
Kaki-Shibu: A Thousand Years of Performance
Kaki-shibu has been applied to textiles, paper, wood, and lacquerware in Japan for over a millennium — specifically for its antimicrobial, astringent, and chemical binding properties. This is not speculative chemistry. It is an ancient high-performance material re-engineered for a modern application in laundry care.
03 · Differentiation
Enzyme + Tannin: Two Mechanisms, One Product
Most laundry additives rely on a single mechanism — surfactants for soil removal, or enzymes for protein breakdown. BOOST combines polyphenol neutralization of aldehyde odors with a dual-enzyme system (protease + amylase) for protein and starch degradation. Two distinct mechanisms. No cellulase. Fabric integrity preserved.

The Product

TANNIN+ BOOST

A concentrated powder additive that brings persimmon tannin odor neutralization to any wash. Compatible with every detergent. No switching cost. No fragrance. Just the chemistry that actually eliminates odor.

MVP · First to Market Powder Format Fragrance-Free Works With Any Detergent Cellulase-Free 10-Ingredient Formula
High-purity persimmon tannin extract — the active odor-neutralizing ingredient at meaningful concentration, not a trace addition
Dual-enzyme system — protease for protein-based odor, amylase for starch removal; no cellulase protects fabric integrity
Alkaline-optimized pH — engineered so tannin binding and enzyme performance activate together in a standard wash cycle
Zero fragrance — designed for consumers who understand the difference between masking and neutralizing
Compatible with any detergent — broadest possible market entry with no consumer habit change required

The target compound is documented — and ignored
2-nonenal is well-studied in Japanese dermatology and materials science. Persimmon tannin is its documented natural counteragent. No laundry brand has built a product around this relationship. BOOST is first.
Consumer segment already exists and is growing
Evidence-driven, fragrance-skeptical consumers are a documented and expanding group. They actively seek products with ingredient transparency and mechanism-based claims. No laundry additive speaks their language. BOOST does.
Additive format eliminates adoption friction
BOOST doesn't ask consumers to replace their detergent — just to add one scoop. The lowest possible switching cost means BOOST can enter alongside every existing laundry brand in the market, not against them.
Lean, fast, trade-secret protected

Trade Secret Over Patent
Formulation ratios and sourcing relationships are protected as trade secrets. No patent timeline, no public disclosure, no filing cost. The competitive moat is speed to market and formula opacity — full details available only under NDA.
02 · Entry
Additive Format, Zero Friction
BOOST is added to any wash — it doesn't replace a detergent. This eliminates the biggest barrier in premium laundry adoption: asking a consumer to change an established habit. Add one scoop. That's the entire ask.
